Winter is Back. (Sept. 05 Blog - Back in London after NYC)

Miles Winter Roberts, of the now-breaking act Winter Roberts, has just stepped off the plane from New York. “Wow,” he says, and begins to gather his thoughts at the baggage carousel. His performance at the Cutting Room was a success, with major industry people there to witness it and once again winning over the hearts of Manhattan. But as an honoured guest at the second premiere of ‘Peace One Day’, (a film of one man’s journey to secure a day of international peace and ceasefire), had he really just shared a joke and a tequila with Angelina Jolie and Johnny Lee Miller respectively? Yes, he had! Only in New York…

After tonight’s show in Mamilanji on the King’s Road, things are about to get even busier. There are four such shows ahead, leading to the Big One on 25 October at Guanabara, Drury Lane. It’s time to go up a level with a major media showcase and party for the record label, Sidewalk 7. The band needs to be rehearsed – that’s twelve in a room for a week. If only London were a little like New York… He wonders if it’s possible to bring a little Manhattan to Drury Lane, the venue sure lends itself to it…

There is to be a private early performance for all interested parties at the BBC and the press. The rest of the night will feature other Sidewalk artists, with Winter Roberts headlining at around ten with a full set. Judging by present reactions, it will be a night to remember, and quite an exclusive crush. A lifestyle magazine is going to run a story. “You’re a long way from the Island now” Miles says to himself, but knows the island is never far away, as he carries it around with him; like one of his songs, it’s catchy and stays in your head. “It’s a Private Party,” he sings as he clears customs and meets the London morning…
